DAY 2: Visit the Pyramids, Sphinx & Saqqara

After enjoying a delicious breakfast, we will have a brief pre-tour briefing before embarking on our tour of Giza and Saqqara. Giza, built around 4600 years ago as a necropolis for the pharaoh Khufu (Cheops), is a remarkable site that draws visitors from all over the world. Khufu was known for his tyranny and arrogance, and he decided to have a tomb constructed that was bigger and better than all others. The Pyramid of Khufu stands at an impressive 500 feet high and 750 feet at its base, constructed of giant blocks of stone covered in a hard limestone casing. Over the years, the casing has been stripped away, leaving the inner block structure exposed. The smaller pyramids of Khafre (Chephern) and Menkaure (Mycerinus) are also located in Giza, and together with the Pyramid of Khufu, they create a majestic sight rising out of the desert. During our visit, you will have the opportunity to climb inside one of the pyramids (subject to limited availability), as well as take a camel ride. The mysterious Sphinx stands guard nearby, as it has done for thousands of years. We will have a guided tour around the Sphinx and some free time to walk around and take photos. From Giza, we will take you to Saqqara, which lies 25km to the south of Cairo. Djeser's (Zoser's) StepPyramid, built 4700 years ago, dominates the skyline and is believed to have been the ancient Egyptians' first attempt at pyramid building. The entire 7km stretch of desert at Saqqara is a treasure trove of pyramids, temples, and tombs, providing us with ample opportunities to explore and learn more about the history of pyramid building in Egypt. After a full day of sightseeing, we will return to the hotel for a relaxing evening. Our tour of Giza and Saqqara will provide you with a deeper appreciation for the wonders of ancient Egypt.

DAY 3: Cairo city tour & dinner cruise

After enjoying a delicious breakfast, we will begin our tour of Cairo, a city with a fascinating history that dates back over a thousand years. Founded in 969 AD by Gohar, a Fatimid army leader, El Kahera (Cairo) quickly became the capital of Egypt. Over time, subsequent additions like the El Azhar mosque, the Islamic University, and defensive walls and a citadel, built by Saladin in 1179, have helped Cairo maintain its status as Egypt's principal city. In the 19th century, the reign of Ismail (1830-1895) ushered in a new period of expansion and modernization in Cairo. Areas like Heliopolis, Dokki, and Roda were added, while gardens, opera houses, large hotels, and wide, tree-lined avenues were constructed. Further post-revolutionary urban expansion has left Cairo as one of the world's largest cities, with over 20 million people. Today, it is a vibrant metropolis, a unique blend of modern and old, and a gateway to Egypt's rich cultural heritage. Our tour includes a visit to the Egyptian Museum, home to a vast collection of artifacts from Egypt's past, including the famous King Tutankhamun display. We will also explore the Citadel, a collection of mosques and palaces that offer a stunning view over the city, and the Khan al Khalili bazaar, a maze-like market that offers a window to the past and aguaranteed souvenir.
To cap off our tour, we will enjoy a dinner cruise on the River Nile this evening. While dining, we will be entertained by traditional Sufi dancing and exotic belly dancing, making for an unforgettable experience. The Nile has been the lifeblood of Egypt for thousands of years, and this dinner cruise will provide a unique perspective on this iconic waterway. Our tour of Cairo will provide you with a deeper understanding of the city's rich cultural heritage and diverse history. From ancient artifacts to modern-day wonders, Cairo is a city that offers something for everyone. Whether you are a history buff, a culture enthusiast, or simply looking for a vibrant and exciting destination.
