About this tour

Embark on a 12-day journey to uncover the secrets of Egypt on this comprehensive tour. Your adventure begins in Cairo, where you’ll visit the Great Pyramids and the Sphinx before heading to Aswan to explore the beautiful island temple of Philae by boat. You’ll have the option to add an incredible tour to Abu Simbel, a must-see site in Egypt. Next, you’ll embark on a traditional Egypt Nile felucca cruise down the Nile towards Luxor in the Nile Valley. Along the way, our support facilities boat will dock with us, allowing you to take advantage of its toilet, showers, and massage deck. Once in Luxor, you’ll visit amazing temples, including the massive complex at Karnak and the less-visited site of Medinat Habu on the West Bank of the Nile. Other visits include Queen Hatshepsut’s temple, the Colossi of Memnon, and of course, the ancient Pharaonic tombs in the Valley of the Kings. Your next stop is the Red Sea resort town of Hurghada, where you’ll have the opportunity to relax and enjoy optional activities by the sea. Hurghada is famous for its scuba diving, snorkeling, and great seafood, and there are plenty of adventurous activities to choose from, such as quad biking, kiteboarding, windsurfing, fishing, or camel rides. Alternatively, you can simply relax on the beach and soak up the year-round sunshine. The tour concludes with a drive back to Cairo, but you can choose to fly home directly from Hurghada if you prefer. Throughout your journey, you’ll stay in 5-star hotels, with the option to upgrade to a flight and hotel instead of the sleeper train journey, and an extra night in the hotel in Aswan if you prefer more comfort for those nights on the felucca. This tour offers an immersive and in-depth experience of Egypt’s ancient history and rich culture. Led by knowledgeable local guides, you’ll discover hidden treasures and awe-inspiring sites, creating lasting memories of this fascinating country. With a balance of guided tours and free time, you’ll have the flexibility to explore at your own pace and make the most of your time in Egypt.

Itinerary

As soon as you arrive at the airport, our staff will be there to greet you and assist you with obtaining your visa and collecting your luggage. From there, we'll transfer you to your hotel to start your trip. Our staff will help you settle in, introduce you to the local area, and explain the arrangements for the following day. The rest of the day is free for you to relax and explore at your leisure. If you arrive early, we recommend taking an evening dinner cruise on the Nile or experiencing the spectacular sound and light show at the pyramids, both of which can be booked locally upon arrival. These options are a great way to kick off your trip and add some extra excitement to your first day in Egypt.
Overnight: Cairo 5-star hotel

Embark on an unforgettable tour of Egypt starting with a drive to Giza on the outskirts of Cairo. Here, you'll visit the Sphinx and the three great pyramids of Egypt, accompanied by one of our expert local Egyptologist guides. They will be a wealth of knowledge, full of enthusiasm about Egyptian history and their country in general. The Great Pyramid of Khufu (Cheops) is an awe-inspiring man-made structure, standing at 500 feet high and 750 feet wide at its base. Constructed of giant stone blocks with a hard limestone casing, the casing has been stripped away over the years to reveal the inner block structure. Together with the smaller pyramids of Khafre (Chephern) and Menkaure (Mycerinus), the sight of these enormous structures rising out of the desert is truly breathtaking. You'll even have the opportunity to climb down inside the pyramids if you wish, although your guide cannot accompany you (a limited number of tickets are available for the Great Pyramid).
After the Pyramids, we'll head to the Egyptian Museum, home to the fantastic Tutankhamun exhibit and a vast number of other ancient Egyptian artifacts. This evening, we'll transfer to the station for the overnight sleeper train to Aswan (approx. 12 hours). You'll enjoy dinner on board in your private twin-berth compartments before the steward sets up your beds for the night. This is a unique way to travel through Egypt and a memorable experience in itself, allowing you to see the countryside and stars from the comfort of your own private cabin.
Overnight: Sleeper train
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

After a comfortable overnight sleeper train journey, we arrive in Aswan this morning and transfer to our hotel, which overlooks the Nile. This is the most picturesque location in Aswan, with lush green islands and feluccas sailing to and fro. Aswan is a melting pot of African and Middle Eastern cultures, which you can experience by wandering through the busy markets. It's also part of the ancient region of Nubia, which comprised parts of present-day southern Egypt and northern Sudan around the Nile rivers. Many descendants of the Nubian people still live here, and we'll visit a local Nubian village to see their colorful houses, simple way of life, and enjoy a traditional lunch.
In the afternoon, we'll continue our tour with a visit to the Temple of Philae, a beautiful island complex dedicated to Isis and reclaimed from the rising waters of Lake Nasser. We'll reach the temple by a scenic boat ride, which adds to the charm of the experience. The evening is free for you to explore Aswan's spice and general markets, and to walk up and down the popular Corniche on the banks of the Nile. An optional camel ride through the sands on the far bank of the Nile to St. Simeon's monastery is also available. If you've chosen the Abu Simbel option, we recommend heading to bed early this evening to be ready for a very early start tomorrow morning. Aswan is a fascinating city with a rich history and vibrant culture, and this is an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in it.

After a delicious breakfast on-board, we'll bid farewell to our felucca crew and visit the nearby temple at Edfu before continuing our journey northward to Luxor. Luxor is a town built on and around the ancient site of Thebes, which boasts the largest concentration of ancient ruins in the Nile Valley, if not the world. To the west of the Nile lies the City of the Dead, with its mortuary temples and rock-hewn tombs, while to the east lie the Temples of Luxor and Karnak.
Upon our arrival in Luxor, we'll check into a luxurious 5-star hotel located on the banks of the Nile. This afternoon, you'll have some free time to relax and enjoy the hotel's facilities, such as the swimming pool or spa.
Later this evening, we'll take a walking tour of the smaller Luxor Temple, which is located in the heart of the town and beautifully lit up at night. This morning, we'll cross the Nile early to begin our tour of Luxor's West Bank. This area is home to the Valley of the Kings, where the dusty tombs in this ancient burial site are still revealing their secrets today, making it one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. Our tour includes several of these Pharaonic tombs, as well as the temple of Queen Hatshepsut, Deir El-Medina (the Valley of the Artisans), and the huge Colossi of Memnon.
If you're looking for a unique experience (optional excursion) , a spectacular hot air balloon flight over the west bank of the Nile is available this morning. You can expect an early start to catch the sunrise as the balloon rises, but the views are worth it.
After lunch, we'll tour the huge temple complex at Karnak, which was once the religious center of Thebes and Upper Egypt. It was linked to Luxor by an extensive avenue lined with sphinxes, and the whole complex was in turn linked to the Nile via a canal through which the sacred boats of the god Amun would move. Upon entering through a smaller sphinx-lined avenue built by Ramesses II, you'll come to the immense pylon entrance. Inside the vast courtyard are three chapels dedicated to the gods Amun, Khous, and Mut. The remarkable Hypostyle Hall has 134 towering columns, each carved with scenes of gods and pharaohs, and hieroglyphic inscriptions adorn the walls. The sheer size and grandeur of the complex is awe-inspiring and will transport you back in time to ancient Egypt. Our knowledgeable guide will provide you with insights into the history and significance of this remarkable site, making for a fascinating and informative visit.
