After enjoying a delicious breakfast, we will have a brief pre-tour briefing before embarking on our tour of Giza and Saqqara. Giza was constructed around 4600 years ago as a necropolis for the pharaoh Khufu (Cheops), who was infamous for his tyranny and arrogance. He commissioned the construction of a tomb that would surpass all others, resulting in the awe-inspiring Pyramid of Khufu. Standing at an impressive 500 feet high and 750 feet at its base, this man-made wonder is constructed of giant blocks of stone covered in a hard limestone casing. While the casing has been stripped away over time, the inner block structure remains just as impressive. The smaller pyramids of Khafre (Chephern) and Menkaure (Mycerinus) are also located in Giza, and together with the Pyramid of Khufu, they create a breathtaking spectacle rising out of the desert. During our visit, you will have the opportunity to climb inside one of the pyramids (subject to limited availability) and take a camel ride. The mysterious Sphinx stands guard nearby, as it has done for thousands of years. We will have a guided tour around the Sphinx and some free time to walk around and take photos. From Giza, we will take you to Saqqara, which lies 25km to the south of Cairo. Djeser's (Zoser's) Step Pyramid dominates the skyline and is believed to havebeen the ancient Egyptians' first attempt at pyramid building, dating back 4700 years. The entire 7km stretch of desert at Saqqara is a treasure trove of pyramids, temples, and tombs, and we will have plenty of time to explore while learning about the fascinating history of pyramid building in Egypt. Our tour of Giza and Saqqara offers a unique opportunity to witness some of the world's most impressive ancient structures and gain a deeper understanding of Egypt's rich cultural heritage. From the awe-inspiring Pyramid of Khufu to the mysterious Sphinx and the step pyramid of Djeser.

Meals: Breakfast

We will start our day with a delicious breakfast before embarking on a tour of Cairo, a city with a fascinating history that dates back over a thousand years. Founded in 969 AD by Gohar, a Fatimid army leader, El Kahera (Cairo) quickly became the capital of Egypt. Over time, subsequent additions like the El Azhar mosque, the Islamic University, and defensive walls and a citadel, built by Saladin in 1179, have helped Cairo maintain its status as Egypt's principal city. During our tour, we will visit some of Cairo's most iconic landmarks. Our first stop will be the Egyptian Museum, home to a vast collection of artifacts from Egypt's past, including the famous King Tutankhamun display. We will also explore the Citadel, a collection of mosques and palaces that offer a stunning view over the city, and the Khan al Khalili bazaar, a maze-like market that offers a window to the past and a guaranteed souvenir. To cap off our tour, we will enjoy a dinner cruise on the River Nile this evening. While dining, we will be entertained by traditional music and dance performances, making for an unforgettable experience. The Nile has been the lifeblood of Egypt for thousands of years, and this dinner cruise will provide a unique perspective on this iconic waterway. Our tour of Cairo will provide you with a deeper understanding of the city's rich cultural heritage and diverse history. From ancient artifacts to modern-day wonders, Cairooffers a unique blend of old and new, and our tour will help you appreciate all that this vibrant city has to offer.
